From inspiration to impact: Legacy for the Future one year on

One year on from UEFA Women's EURO 2025, projects supported through the Legacy for the Future initiative are creating new opportunities for girls and young women across Europe.

As part of Legacy for the Future, supported by several partners including the UEFA Foundation for Children and the adidas Foundation, each of the 16 teams at Women's EURO 2025 selected an organisation working to advance gender equity and access to sport in their home country.

A total of €800,000 was shared among the 16 chosen organisations, alongside opportunities for visibility, networking and capacity building.

One year on, those projects are making a difference across Europe – creating more opportunities for girls to take part in sport, developing female leaders and coaches and building more inclusive environments.

Across Europe, Legacy for the Future has already helped to:

  • Support more than 1,100 young players and train 45 coaches in safeguarding in Belgium
  • Introduce more than 500 girls from 26 schools to football in Norway
  • Reach 2,413 children through football workshops and tournaments across Poland
  • Deliver 336 sport sessions for more than 300 young people in vulnerable communities in Spain
  • Support 22 projects improving football facilities for women and girls across Wales
  • Provide sport and integration activities for 120 migrant women and children in France

Representatives from all 16 organisations came together at UEFA headquarters in Nyon to present the results of their projects, share what they have learned and look at how their work can continue to make an impact.

Together, they are helping ensure the legacy of Women's EURO 2025 continues long after the tournament.

The Legacy for the Future NGOs at UEFA HQ

One of the most powerful lessons from Legacy for the Future is that the impact of football extends far beyond the final whistle.

Through strong local organisations and collective action, sport can create lasting opportunities for women and girls while strengthening communities for years to come.

We are proud to have been part of this journey and grateful to UEFA Foundation for Children for their partnership in making this vision a reality.

🇧🇪 Belgium: Building pathways on and off the pitch

BX Brussels creates equal opportunities for girls from migrant and Muslim backgrounds, both on and off the pitch. Through Legacy for the Future funding, the organisation supported more than 1,100 young players and provided safeguarding training for 45 coaches.

It also delivered 11 personal development workshops, organised a development weekend for 30 participants and welcomed nine Belgian and three international teams to the BX Femina International Tournament.

In addition, the funding helped BX Brussels launch outreach programmes in five schools, establish a UEFA C licence coaching pathway for girls and create additional training opportunities for high-potential players.

Two representatives from Kwilu Foot, a girls' football academy in DR Congo, spent six weeks with the organisation, gaining experience as both players and coaches.

"We learned a lot on and off the pitch. We grew as coaches and players. It is really important to us to be able to bring this new knowledge back to Congo."
